A Movement To Heal Voters

Our culture was historically outlawed until the American Indian Religious Freedom Act of 1978 yet Indigenous rights are still violated through a diverse set of policies and practices in many institutions such as schools, prisons, local and federal governments.”

San Francisco District Attorney

“I look forward to learning from tribal communities about what the District Attorney’s office can do to help heal the wounds that have been inflicted upon them by our government in many forms for hundreds of years. I’m committed to restorative justice as a primary mechanism for dealing with the problems the District Attorney’s Office is tasked with handling, and I’m indebted to tribal communities for paving the way.”

Chesa Boudin, San Francisco District Attorney

Dann Sisters

“We can't stop the violence against our communities until we stop the violence against Mother Earth because what drives the violence against Mother Earth is the same thing that drives violence against our communities”

- Mary and Carrie Dann

Congress Sisters

"By giving a voice to a whole group of women who have never had a voice in Congress, we're also drawing attention to the struggles and challenges our community still faces"

Sacred sisters

"Imagine having elected leaders with limited knowledge and respect for the stolen land they call home. It’s harmful to tribal communities. We're providing opportunities to restore relationships with our land and people."

- Alyzea Deputron

California State Superintendent

"As State Superintendent my number one priority will be to ensure all students in California obtain a high quality education. This means working and building stronger relationships with tribal communities in Native California to provide the funding and resources to make this vision a reality. I recognize and support the sovereignty of the 109 federally recognized California tribes. The Federal Government must ensure the rights promised to federally recognized tribes and streamline the process for unrecognized tribes to become recognized. One of the biggest challenges to achieving more restorative justice is the importance we have given to prisons in this state. Since 1980, we’ve built 1 UC and 23 prisons. We have to shift our state budget away from incarceration and towards education. I will continue supporting programs that keep our children in school and out of prison. We won’t break the school-to-prison pipeline until we put our money where our mouth is. At the state level, we must continue to strengthen our cap and trade system, eliminate fracking, and be the nation’s representative in the Paris Agreement. I will be a consistent advocate for legislation that accomplishes these goals. I am concerned that California’s educational system has not kept up with the needs of Native American students and the impact of climate change."

Tony Thurmond, California State Superintendent

Support A World Changing Idea

"At a moment when the world is quite literally burning, we need bold ideas. Pick almost any area of our economy or environment & it's easy to find a statistic suggesting that we're already at a crisis point. The ingenuity embodied by this year's honorees proves that we have the capacity to imagine our way out of today's crisis if we move quickly & commit sufficient resources so that the best plans can scale & succeed. But do we have the will to act on these & other potentially world changing ideas? Can we go beyond mere lip service? These World Changing Ideas were designed to address our most intractable problems & urgent crises. Presenting ingenious solutions to some of our gravest challenges, they offer ways to change our course, putting us all on a better trajectory."

- Morgan Clendaniel, Editor of Fast Company
